Revisited : 2006 End of Year Special

This is one out of  the old box. The curent blog was started in late 2007 but about a year earlier I had already written the “2006 end of Year special”. I figured I might as well upload this article on the first day of the new year 2009 (3 years overdue…) :

Top 25 Records of 2006 :
25 : Have Heart – The Things We Carry  (hardcore)
24 : Amen Ra – Mass III (metal)
23 : The Hope Conspiracy – Death Knows Your Name (hardcore)
22 : Manatees – An Introduction to the Manatee (metal)
21 : Torche – Torche (stoner)
20 : Parkway Drive – Killing With a Smile (metalcore)
19 : He Is Legend – Suck Out the Poison (stoner)
18 : The Angelic Process – … And Your Blood is Full of Honey (doom)
17 : Envy – Insomniac Doze (postcore)
16 : Boy is Fiction – Boy is Fiction (downtempo)
15 : Nadja – Trembled (doom/ambient/live)
14 : Electric Wizard – Come  My Fanatics (sludge)
13 : Boris – Pink (noiserock)
12 : Kode 9 & The Spaceape – Memories of the Future (dubstep)
11 : Converge – No Heroes (hardcore)

10 : Mastodon – Blood Mountain (stoner)

09 : Skream – Skream!  (dubstep)

08 : Woburn House – Message to Ourselves… (metal)
(No Image)
07 : Rise Against – The Sufferer & The Witness (punkrock)

06 : Ignite – Our Darkest Days (hardcore)

05 : Cult Of Luna – Somewhere Along the Highway (metal)

04 : Tool – 10.000 Days (metal)

03 : Isis – In The Absence of Truth (metal)

02 : Burial – Burial (dubstep)

01 : Jesu – Silver EP  (metal/electronica)

Originally, I had Jesu and Isis turned around. But over the past 2 years, Silver has grown on me even more and right now it’s my favorite Jesu record along with the s/t. So even though it’s only a 4 (+2 bonus) track EP, I still think it deserves first place. Burial still stands firmly at 2. And although In The Absence of Truth is still a great record, it has lost some of its originality. Therefore it drops to 3. Tool has remained a solid 4th but Cult of Luna has slipped in to the top 5 with their best work to date pushing the two melodic hardcore/punk albums of the top 10 back a spot.
That was 2006 for ya.
